iPhone multi-touch screen
is so sensitive that sometimes you may not aware on what combination buttons being pressed that results in certain unexpected scenario. This is even worse if you leave iPhone as one of the toys for your kids and doesn’t aware what have been done by them. One of the common issues is the screen stuck at zoom that you may think it is due to software corruption that cannot be recovered even after restarting the device.

Don’t panic now, the symptom actually is due to one of the built-in Zoom features that has been accidentally activated with a few finger touches without your awareness. To recover it, simply tap the screen two times with three fingers simultaneously will bring the screen to normal view condition.

Zoom feature allows users to magnify the entire screen by simply perform certain finger taping and dragging on the screen. Users can double-tap with three fingers to zoom, drag three fingers while zoomed to move around the screen or double-tap with dragging up/down to change zoom and etc. If you think this feature is not really necessary and in order to disable it, just follow below steps.

1. First, tap on Settings, then go to General.
2. From here, browse to Accessibility and tap on it.
3. Under the Zoom selection, toggle it to OFF.

Hopefully these simple steps will help you recovering your iPhone 3G/3GS or 4 that stuck at zoom screen.

Casio G'zOne Ravine
By Athima Chansanchai

Casio's G'zOne's phones bear the tagline: "Tougher than you."

I don't know about that, since my accident-prone body has the scars all over to prove I can take a lick, and then some, but Casio's new G'zOne Ravine phone, which will be available as early as mid-October on Verizon Wireless, may actually be tougher than me. It doesn't look like much. In fact, that's it's allure: It's as rugged as Verizon's previous G'zOne models, but it won't make you look like you're a friggin' Navy SEAL when you're using it. It's Clark Kent on the outside, Superman on the inside.

How rugged? It conforms to military test standards, which means it withstands water, dust, shock, vibration, humidity, altitude, salt fog, solar radiation, and high and low temperatures.

As part of the G'zOne line, it's got specialized apps for wanderers, including an Earth Compass (GPS shows the distance and direction to over 33 domestic and international landmarks), a pedometer, Tides (for the nautical adventurer), thermometer, Sunrise Sunset (to give you an idea how far you can hike before you need to make camp!), an Astro Calendar and the Star Gazer, which gives you the names of the constellations based on the current season and time using GPS.

Living in such an outdoorsy mecca (Seattle), I'm surrounded by people whose normal downtime activities would be crazy for me: backcountry skiing/snowboarding (with transmitters just in case of avalanches), ice camping, sailing during Seattle winters and mountain biking up and down steep grades that make me queasy just thinking about it. Then there are those who take their lives into their own hands daily: the bike messengers, the skaters and surfers.

This kind of phone is perfect for them. Or if you are a stuntman/woman, or Angelina Jolie.

Maybe we'll call one in to test â half the fun would be coming up with ways to try to destroy it and see if it really has that Terminator gene. Maybe we'll pit it against the Sonim XP3, for example. It could get into a cage fight with the Ravine. Would be a toss up on the winner. (Watch this Sonim video.) Maybe the Samung Convoy could be another contender.

The Ravine will cost $150 after a $50 rebate, assuming you sign up for the 2-year contract and remember to send in the mail-in rebate form. The current generation of G'zOne phones, the Rock and Brigade, definitely look like they can take some action, but that could be a turn-off. If that's the case, best to look into the Ravine.

iPad denting, not canabalizing PC sales; Win Phone 7 Debut; Most Americans don't have smartphones; 3DS, is it 3D gaming's savior?

iPad denting, not canabalizing PC sales: The iPad is not descimating PC sales, however it is taking a byte. According to information from the NPD Group, 13% of new iPad owners made that purchase instead of a PC, and 24% purchased it instead of an e-reader. The research firm also found that people who purchased their iPad in the first two months it was available were very satisfied with with it, while 65% who purchased it later were.

Win Phone 7 Debut: Microsoft is expected to announce the launch of its Windows Phone 7 on Monday, October 11, and at the same time confirm that AT&T will be the exclusive carrier for the Win 7 phones, with one phone each available from HTC, LG, and Samsung. The phones themselves will be available four weeks later. The smartphones themselves have not been a mystery as Microsoft has shown the phone, and even given some preview units, to reporters. But the roll out plan, including carriers, has been unconfirmed until now. It may come as a surprise that AT&T, the exclusive iPhone carrier, will be the exclusive launch partner for Microsoft's iPhone competitor. Is AT&T exclusivity a wise move? That remains to be seen. Even with a big launch Windows Phone 7 will come out of the gate as an underdog in the highly competitive smartphone market.

Most Americans still don't have smartphones: If you're a tech-news junkie, you may have gotten the impression that everyone either already has, or desperately wants, a smartphone. However new research from Forrester indicates that while 82% of Americans own cell phones, and 73% report it is their most used device, only 17% of Americans own a smartphone. This holds true even among the tech-savvy Gen-X'ers (31 - 40) and Gen-Y'ers (18 - 30), with less than 25% of cell phone users in those groups owning a smartphone. Which means that the vast majority of cell phone users in the United States rely on cheaper, less feature full phones. Of course standard cell phones are getting smarter, with many models sporting multi-media messaging, email and mobile web applications such as Facebook connects. Granted use of these features are more difficult and limited on the standard phones, but this hasn't inhibited Americans from making use of their existing phones for new communication platforms, nor encouraged them to make the jump in price to the newer smartphones.

Nintendo 3DS: Is it 3-D gaming's savior?: The much anticipated Nintendo 3DS will arrive in Japan in February 2011, with a US debut to shortly follow in March. That's about three months too late for the holiday shopping season, and later than predicted by some. More noteworthy though is the device's potential to make 3D gaming a household commodity. Unlike 3D games for PS3 or PC, the 3DS does not require the user to wear, the historically annoying and undeniably goofy-looking, stereoscopic glasses.

Nobody ever imagined how quickly the Android mobile-phone platform would take off–not even Andy Rubin, the Silicon Valley engineer who created it. Five years ago Rubin was leading a startup that had just been acquired by Google and was trying to develop software that could power a smart phone. Two years ago the first Android phone hit the market and, frankly, it was a bit of a dud. But the software kept getting better, and top handset makers like HTC, Motorola, and Samsung jumped on board, rolling out dozens of Android-based devices.

What began as a trickle now has turned into a tidal wave. In August Google announced it was activating 200,000 Android phones each day. On at least one day since then, that number surged to more than 250,000, Rubin says. Android now has leapt past Apple to become the biggest smart-phone platform in the United States, the third-biggest worldwide, and by far the fastest growing.

Android is the kind of runaway smash hit that techies spend their careers dreaming about. Rubin, a 47-year-old über nerd–he has a retina scanner on the front door of his house and robotic helicopters cruise his backyard–has helped build a string of tech companies over the past two decades. But nothing he's done so far compares to what's happening with Android. "This," he says, "is the most fun I've ever had."

The software was written by a small team of engineers tucked away in a nondescript building on the Google campus in Mountain View, Calif. While it contains 11 million lines of code, the whole program takes up only 200 megabytes of space, about as much as 40 MP3 songs. Yet despite its tiny size, Android is changing the mobile industry in profound ways, shifting the balance of power from Europe and Asia, the previous leaders, to Silicon Valley and reshaping the fortunes of the world's biggest tech companies.

Android has also transformed Google and its longtime ally Apple into fierce rivals. Until recently, Apple seemed destined to rule the mobile Internet, thanks to the popularity of the iPhone, which was introduced in 2007 and quickly began grabbing market share.

NY-based Harbinger Capital Partners’ investment manager Phil Falcone is taking a risk, developing a cheap satellite-based Internet service that can be described as a kind of highway in the sky. According to Forbes, Falcone intends to buy expensive spectrum and put it to work on a 4G network, created from scratch, using satellites and thousands of as yet built transmission towers.

Critics say that Falcone is underfunding his dream and is late in the game. Falcone counters that he knows how to deploy capital. His company has picked up undervalued and distressed telecom companies, and recently Harbinger raised $3 billion for a Reston VA. telecom company called LightSquared that controls a few satellites and has FCC approval to lease 1.6 GHz spectrum.

Data from research firm ChangeWave shows continuing momentum for the Google's mobile platform, with consumers now desiring a new phone based on Android vis a vis the iPhone. 37 percent of respondents who plan to purchase a phone in the next 90 days say they'd like an Android phone, versus 38 percent for the iPhone.

The iPhone 4 only briefly stopped consumers from flocking to Android when it launched in June of this year. As the hype has simmered down, consumer's desire for Android phones has heated up, however. In just one year, interest in the platform has increased six-fold, the firm found.

"We've seen huge leaps forward for the Android OS in four of the last five ChangeWave surveys," ChangeWave vice president Paul Carton said.

Android's success is coming as a direct result of the iPhone's drop in desirability. Just six months ago, half of all prospective smart phone buyers were planning on the device. Actual numbers are showing this: Google activates some 200,000 devices per day, and in terms of unit sales surpassed the iPhone back in the second quarter of this year.

What is the reasoning for Apple's fall? A multitude of obvious issues may be to blame. In the US, one of the biggest smart phone markets in the world, the iPhone is limited to a single carrier. Android on the other hand is available on all top five carriers. Android also has the benefit of multiple models: Apple only sells two, the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4.

Other factors may be at play, including the negative publicity as a result of the iPhone 4's antenna problems, and the issues Apple has faced in bringing the anticipated white iPhone 4 to the market. However, it is nearly impossible to gauge either's effect on overall sales.

There was some bright news for Apple in the survey, however: its iOS remained tops in customer satisfaction with 74 percent of all users reporting they're very satisfied. Android is not too far behind though, with 65 percent.
